Respiratory Health
The respiratory system is vital to good health and is responsible for providing oxygen to the body and expelling carbon dioxide. The lungs are the primary organs in the respiratory system and may be impacted by diseases and conditions such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, influenza, pneumonia and other illnesses.
Respiratory therapists, under the direction of a physician, are licensed professionals who use evidence-based protocols to evaluate and treat patients with breathing disorders. Therapists also help to educate patients and families about disease processes relating to the cardiopulmonary system. All respiratory therapists are credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
