More About Cardiac Rehabilitation

Maury Regional Medical Center's cardiac rehabilitation program is supervised by a cardiologist and staffed with a registered nurse and exercise physiologist who monitor the activity of your heart during exercise and educate you on the risk factors for heart disease. During this time, your exercise level will be gradually and safely increased to strengthen your heart.

Phase I

The first phase of cardiac rehabilitation is for inpatients that have either had open heart surgery, heart attack or an interventional procedure.

Phase II

The second phase is conducted on an outpatient basis for those who have had open heart surgery, a heart attack, stable angina or other heart-related problems. A physician's order is required. You will attend rehabilitation three times per week for a period of six weeks and will be in a class with other patients who have heart disease. Patients are given personal instruction and their heart rate is closely monitored during exercise. Phase II rehabilitation is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for one hour. Patients may choose from several one-hour classes that are offered throughout the day.

Insurance reimbursement for Phase II varies based on medical condition and insurance provider. Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance company for more information.

Phase III

The third phase is for those who have completed Phase II or as a self referral for people with cardiovascular risk factors. Patients do not wear a heart monitor, but the Cardiac Rehabilitation staff supervises their exercise. Phase III rehabilitation is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is a minimal out-of-pocket charge per month. Spouses may accompany the patient for a nominal fee. Patients may choose from one of the following times:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

• 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

• 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

More About Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation is recommended for patients with certain conditions affecting the lungs, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and lung cancer.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a therapy program that combines education and exercise to improve lung function and decrease shortness of breath. The pulmonary rehabilitation staff includes licensed respiratory therapists, a registered nurse, an exercise physiologist, an occupational therapist, a clinical health liaison, and a registered dietitian.

The team of experienced professionals works under the guidance of a physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Our goal at Maury Regional Medical Center is to assist you in improving your quality of life by breathing easier.

Typically, patients will attend pulmonary rehabilitation in the Heart Center twice per week for a period of several weeks; however, pulmonary rehabilitation plans vary for each patient, based on the patient's condition. A physician referral is required to begin rehabilitation. The staff will contact you to set up your appointment once the required information is received from your physician.

Most insurance companies will cover pulmonary rehabilitation; however, the staff will contact your insurance company prior to your first visit to verify coverage.

Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation is conducted in the Heart Center located on the first floor of the medical center (near the main lobby).
